A Modern Scandi Inspired Home in Cork

Last year, I had the pleasure of working with the Cork-based Catriona on the design of her home. Catriona was upgrading her country home with a large side extension, she enlisted builder extraordinaire Derek O' Driscoll for the build and architect Kevin Gartland for the stellar design and wanted help with how to style the space and how to integrate it with the rest of the house.

Catriona has great style and knew the kind of look she wanted to achieve - she wanted the space to meld with the lush country environment as the new beautiful extension had lots of large beautiful windows, she wanted it to work for the whole family (kids included) and she wanted it to look clean, minimal and chic. We decided on a Simple Rustic look with a Modern Scandinavian feel.

With most Irish homes, the kitchen is the heart and this was certainly the case for Catriona's home. The newly built kitchen was this incredible light-filled space with timber-clad walls and a soaring high ceiling. This was going to be the space in which the family prepared and ate all their meals, the space they entertained with friends, the space they grabbed a glass of wine and gazed at the sunset, the space they snuggled up in and read a good book. It had a lot of functions and we had to ensure that it did all this very well and looked great too.

We took inspiration from the below imagery:

So lots of neutral hues with bold navy, white marble carrara, raw timber and brass highlights with some subtle pops of colour. Lovely.

I'm so pleased with the finished look and more importantly so is Catriona! I can imagine this beautiful kitchen being used, lived in and loved for decades to come and it means so much to have been involved.

Huge thanks to Catriona for letting us peek around her gorgeous home again and to Derek O' Driscoll for building such a special space and to David Casey for the use of his stunning photography.
